Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Overall okay kind of restaurant. Not bad but not good that one can miss. Self service mess type atmosphere, clean your own table, can be huge lines when peak time, food quality is bringing street side flavor but prices are mid scale restaurant.

Viks in Berkeley is a cool hybrid cafeteria and market. No tipping, super fast service, and the whole placeβfrom the restrooms to the dining areaβis spotless. The food leans mostly sweet and sour. The Mango Lassi is basically the Indian version of Mango Pomelo Sagoβmind-blowingly good! The only downside was the first cashier, who looked completely over life. Turns out they forgot my Mango Lassi, which you're supposed to get right after ordering. I only figured it out while waiting for my food when I saw the next cashier hand a drink to another customer immediately. Overall verdict: Definitely worth coming back.

Viks is a great one stop for groceries and Indian home style food. The lunch thali is great at the price point with tandoori chicken or lamb, a daal, rice and a roti. The chole bature is great. The chole has some tamarind chutney for that nice sour tangyness and some raw red onions and mango pickle. The bhatura is always piping hot and fried to order. The tandoori chicken was nice and juicy but you don't get the smoky taste from a tandoor. Daal was nice and home style with not too much butter/ghee. The dahi puri was cool and refreshing. The lamb was nice but I prefer goat. Not much ambience and service is self service. I love to get mango lassi from the supermarket. All in all will be back again and again.

Had a solid experience at Viks Chaat. The food definitely leans very spicy, so be prepared if youβre sensitive to heat, but thereβs still good flavor throughout the menu. The setup is more cafeteria-style than a traditional sit-down restaurant, which gives it a casual, bustling atmosphere that fits the place well. The portions are generous and overall itβs good value for the money, especially considering Bay Area prices. The lamb biriyani stood out as a particularly good deal β hearty, flavorful, and filling. Pairing it with one of their draught lagers worked really well and balanced the spice nicely. Not the place for a quiet upscale dining experience, but if you want satisfying Indian comfort food with solid portions and a lively atmosphere, itβs worth checking out.

An amazing place serving Indian chaat. Can get crowded on the weekends, but still the service is pretty quick. Plenty of seating options both indoors and outdoors. We ordered Chole Bhature, Dahi Batata Puri, Pav Bhaji, Kaathi roll and Samosas. The Samosad were top notch, followed by Dahi Batata Puri, Bhatura was amazing but Chole could have been little more flavorful. Pav Bhajj and Kathi roll were decent but not very amazing. They serve Campa Cola too.
